Das Start-Up nucao hat ambitionierte Ziele: Jedes Piepen an der Kasse zu einem Signal für eine gesündere und grünere Welt machen. Dazu gehören für das Unternehmen plastikfreie Supermarktregale, weniger Zucker in der Ernährung sowie mehr pflanzliche Ernährung. Alles begann für nucao mit der Leidenschaft für außergewöhnliche und durchdachte Lebensmittel und das Ergebnis ist leckere und nachhaltige Schokolade ohne Plastikverpackung. Für die Nucao Schokoriegel werden ausschließlich Bio-Zutaten verwendet. Trotz 65% weniger Zucker ist das Schokoladenerlebnis kräftig und mit Endorphinen gespickt.

Nachhaltiges Waschmittel von Seepje

Nachhaltige Mode nachhaltig waschen? Das geht mit den Waschmitteln des niederländischen Start-Ups Seepje! Die Waschmittel sind aus den besten Inhaltsstoffen hergestellt, so wie die Schale der Sapindus-Frucht, die eine natürliche Seife enthält. Diese wächst wild in der Himalaya-Region; Seepje steht in direktem Kontakt mit den Bauern, die die Schalen ernten. Das Unternehmen setzt sich mit fairen Löhnen für bessere Arbeits-und Lebensbedingungen der lokalen Bevölkerung ein. Die Schalen werden CO2-neutral per Boot in die Niederlande versandt und die Seife wird mit einem Koch- und Filterprozess extrahiert. Hochwertiger Trinkgenuss mit Glastrinkhalmen von HALM

Schätzungsweise 40 Milliarden Plastikstrohhalme landen jährlich in deutschen Mülleimern. Rund 450 Jahre braucht so ein Strohhalm dann bis er abgebaut ist. Das Berliner Startup HALM hat sich zur Aufgabe gemacht eine Alternative anzubieten, die nicht nur nachhaltig ist, sondern auch gut schmeckt. Die Idee kam dem Gründerpaar Hannah Cheney und Sebastian Müller nach einer Müllsammelaktion 2015 in Thailand, wo gefühlt jedes zweite Teil am Strand ein Plastikstrohhalm war.

In der Produktentwicklungsphase testeten die Gründer allerlei Alternativen zu Plastik: Papier weichte durch, Bambus war für den Gastronomiebetrieb zu unhygienisch und Metall verfälschte den Geschmack. HALM setzt nun auf extrem stabiles Spezialglas, das mit Solarenergie exklusiv in Deutschland gefertigt wird. Mit den abgerundeten Enden sind die Halme wahre Mundschmeichler. Es gibt fünf Varianten in vier Längen von 10 bis 30 Zentimeter, gerade und gebogen. Alle HALM Kunden haben die Möglichkeit ihre Trinkhalme individuell gravieren zu lassen. Mittlerweile verwenden unzählige Endkunden und schon mehr als 5000 Gastronomen die Trinkhalme aus Glas. Sie haben so dazu beigetragen, dass schon mehr als eine Millarden Plastiktrinkhalme eingespart wurden.

HALM spendet mit jedem verkauften Set an Trash Hero World, um weltweite Clean Ups zu unterstützen, um bei der Wiedergutmachung des bereits angerichteten Schadens zu helfen, der leider sehr groß ist. Wer auch zum Umweltschutz beitrinken möchte, sollte dieses Jahr also mit HALM Trinkhalmen aus Glas anstoßen. Prost!

Nachhaltig schlafen mit Kipli

Alle 4 Sekunden wird eine Matratze entsorgt. 5 Millionen alte Matratzen erzeugen so alleine in Europa 100.000 Tonnen Müll pro Jahr. Marktübliche Produkte bestehen aus aus Erdöl gewonnenen Materialien, sie nicht recyclebar und werden am Ende ihres Lebens entweder verbrannt oder vergraben.
Das Start-Up Kipli hat dieses Problem erkannt und sich auf die Suche nach einer nachhaltigen Alternative gemacht. Es entstand: die Kipli Matratze. Der Kern dieser  Matratze besteht aus 100 % Naturlatex und ihr Bezug wird aus biologischer Baumwolle gefertigt. Sie ist wie auch die anderen Kipli Produkte äußerst langlebig und komfortabel. Neben der Matratze gibt es bei Kipli auch Kissen aus 100% Naturlatex und die Kipli Bettdecke aus Lyocell. Die gesamte Produktion von Kipli findet in Deutschland, Italien und Frankreich unter fairen und umweltfreundlichen Bedingungen statt.
Das Ziel von Kipli ist es, langfristig die Referenz für nachhaltige Inneneinrichtung in Europa zu werden und damit einen Wandel des Konsumverhaltens anzustoßen. Mit der Entwicklung langlebiger natürlicher Produkte möchte das Unternehmen ein Umdenken erreichen. We love sustainability. At UNOWN, sustainability is mostly about fashion, but in fact we have our favourite sustainable brand for almost every area of everyday life - or even several. We'd like to share a few of them with you and we'll start with these three: 

Healthy Chocolate from nucao

The start-up nucao has ambitious goals: To make every peep at the checkout counter a signal for a healthier, greener world. For the company, this includes plastic-free supermarket shelves, less sugar in the diet and more plant-based nutrition. It all began for nucao with a passion for extraordinary and thoughtful food and the result is delicious and sustainable chocolate without plastic packaging. Only organic ingredients are used for the Nucao chocolate bars. Despite 65% less sugar, the chocolate experience is strong and full of endorphins. 
nucao is not only chocolate enthusiastic, but wants to use food as a lever in the fight against the climate crisis - and is planting a tree for every product sold.

Sustainable detergent from Seepje

Washing sustainable fashion sustainably? This is possible with the detergents from the Dutch start-up Seepje! The detergents are made from the best ingredients, just like the shell of the Sapindus fruit, which contains a natural soap. This fruit grows wild in the Himalayas; Seepje is in direct contact with the farmers who harvest the shells. The company provides fair wages to improve the working and living conditions of the local population. The shells are shipped CO2-neutral by boat to the Netherlands and the soap is extracted by a cooking and filtering process. The packaging of the liquid detergents is 97% recycled plastic and 100% recyclable. The mission: Together for a cleaner and more beautiful world. Available from a.o. Alnatura.

High-quality drinking pleasure with glass drinking straws from HALM

An estimated 40 billion plastic straws end up in German waste bins every year. It takes about 450 years for such a straw to decompose. The Berlin startup HALM has made it its business to offer an alternative that is not only sustainable but also tastes good. The idea came to the founding couple Hannah Cheney and Sebastian Müller after a waste collection campaign in 2015 in Thailand, where every second piece on the beach felt like a plastic straw.

During the product development phase, the founders tested all kinds of alternatives to plastic: paper soaked through, bamboo was too unhygienic for the catering business and metal adulterated the taste. HALM is now using extremely stable special glass that is manufactured exclusively in Germany using solar energy. With their rounded ends, the stalks are real mouth flatters. There are five variants in four lengths from 10 to 30 centimetres, straight and curved. All HALM customers have the possibility to have their straws engraved individually. In the meantime, countless end customers and already more than 5000 restaurateurs use the glass drinking straws. In this way they have contributed to the fact that more than one billion plastic drinking straws have already been saved.

With every set sold, HALM donates to Trash Hero World to support worldwide Clean Ups to help make up for the damage already done, which is unfortunately very large. Sustainable sleep with Kipli

A mattress is discarded every 4 seconds. 5 million old mattresses generate 100,000 tons of waste per year in Europe alone. Commercially available products consist of materials extracted from crude oil, they are not recyclable and are either incinerated or buried at the end of their life. 

The start-up Kipli has recognized this problem and has started to look for a sustainable alternative. The result: the Kipli mattress. The core of this mattress consists of 100% natural latex and its cover is made of organic cotton. Like the other Kipli products, it is extremely durable and comfortable. Besides the mattress, Kipli also offers pillows made of 100% natural latex and the Kipli duvet made of Lyocell. All Kipli production takes place in Germany, Italy and France under fair and environmentally friendly conditions. 

Kipli's goal is to become the long-term reference for sustainable interior design in Europe, and thus to initiate a change in consumer behaviour. By developing durable natural products, the company wants to achieve a change in thinking. Kipli offers only natural, biodegradable and durable products that we really need. These are offered at a reasonable price, which allows all parties in the production chain to pay fair prices.
